Virgo Holmes Zeek, age 95, of Northumberland, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 8, 2020, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He was also a member of the Landmark Apostolic Church in Riverside.
Virgo was born on March 6, 1925 to the late John H. Zeek and Emma (Yeager) Zeek in Hummels Wharf. After losing his parents at a young age, Virgo became a resident of the Scotland School for Veterans’ Children in Scotland, PA. Upon graduation, he enlisted as a Private in the U.S. Army and served his country in the European theater of WWII.
In 1948, he married Mary M. Showers of Mount Pleasant Mills. Virgo retired from Textron Industries in Danville. He served his church throughout the years in many roles including Secretary-Treasurer, Sunday School Teacher, and Church Board Member. He was a member of the Shikellamy Archery Club in Fishers Ferry, where he served as Secretary-Treasurer for many years.
Virgo loved hunting and fishing. He also loved his family very much. However, his greatest love was the Lord Jesus Christ. His greatest experience was when he was baptized in Jesus name and received the gift of the Holy Spirit. Some of the greatest memories of Virgo was of him sitting in his chair reading his Bible or hearing the sound of his prayers coming from the bedroom.
Virgo was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary, who died on June 6, 2013; four sisters: Gladys Sandler, Izora Young, Elsie Connor, Claudine Straw and by three brothers: Harry Zeek, Richard Zeek, and Kenneth Zeek.
He is survived by his children: Cindy (Mike) Gates, New Columbia, Deborah (David) MacDonald, Bristol, Conn.,and Donald (Tammy) Zeek, Johnstown; eight grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 11, 2020 at 11 a.m. at the Landmark Apostolic Church, 1897 Sunbury Rd., Danville, with Pastor Aaron Wright officiating. Interment will follow in Northumberland Memorial Park with military honors by the American Legion Post 40 Honor Guard. Viewing will be held in the church from 10-11 a.m.
