Obituary

Raymond W. Artley, age 85, of 511 Park Street, Bloomsburg, died early Thursday, April 16, 2020, at the Bloomsburg Care & Rehabilitation Center where he was a patient since Dec. 10, 2019.

Born in Philadelphia on July 20, 1934, he was a son of the late Donald and Lillian (Marks) Artley. He resided in Bloomsburg most of his life.

Ray was employed by the former Magee Carpet Co. for over 20 years, retiring in July, 1999.

He was a life member of the Moose Lodge, originally joining the Bloomsburg Lodge and now a member of the Danville Lodge. His hobbies were archery, hunting and going to the sea shore. He was a member of the 8th Street gang.

Ray served with the U. S. Army during the Korean War.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Melvin A. Artley, on Feb. 21, 2017, a granddaughter, Gretchen L. Artley in 1979 anad a brother, Thomas Artley.

Surviving are his wife, the former Harriet M. Johns, with whom he observed their 65th wedding anniversary on August 28, 2019; four children: Kirk W. Artley, Exchange, Rae T. Stine and Donna K. Ivey, both of Bloomsburg, Ron C. Artley, East Berlin; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister, Gladys Utt, Bloomsburg, a brother Kenneth Artley, Catawissa; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Private graveside services will be held in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. A public celebration of Ray’s life will be held following the COVID-19 pandemic.
