Obituary

Joan (Appleman) Kile, age 90, of 20 Lee Street, Bloomsburg (Lightstreet), went home to be with her Lord at the Emmanuel Center for Nursing in Danville on Sunday evening, May 30, 2021.  She will always be remembered for her positive attitude and smile.

Born in Lightstreet on August 27, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Phoebe (Yorks) Appleman. She graduated from the former Scott High School and went on to earn her BS/RN in nursing from Syracuse University.

Joan was first employed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Montana, before moving back to Bloomsburg where she was a Public Health Nurse. She later became the school nurse for the Bloomsburg School District, where she worked for 30 years until she retired in 1990. During this period, she also taught nursing classes at Bloomsburg State College.

She was a lifelong member of the Lightstreet United Methodist Church. She also belonged to the Lightstreet Garden Club and volunteered at the Bloomsburg Hospital as a chaplain.

Joan spent many summers in Canada and winters in Florida.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Willard H. “Bill” Kile, Sr., on February 13, 2019 and a brother, Arthur Appleman.

Joan is survived by her son, Dr. Willard H. “Bill” Kile, Jr., and his wife Margo of Bloomsburg; a granddaughter, Dr. Hope Kile, Rochester, New York, a sister, Nancy (Appleman) Diehl of Millville and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2021, at 11 a. m. in the Lightstreet United Methodist Church, 1640 Main Street, Lightstreet, with her pastors, Rev. Dr. Jennifer Parks-Snyder and Rev. Ronald S. French officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Lightstreet “Highland” Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the Church from 10-11 a. m.

Flowers will be provided by the family. Memorial gifts may be sent to the Memorial Fund of the Lightstreet United Methodist Church, 1640 Main St., Bloomsburg, PA 17815.

The family would like to thank the staff of Nazareth and Emmanuel facilities at the Maria Joseph Manor in Danville for the great care they provided for Joan.
