James E. Haas, age 74, of 1263 White Hall Road, Turbotville, died unexpectedly at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday April 28, 2021 at his home.
Born in Mahoning Township on February 7, 1947, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Gladys M. (Long) Haas. He graduated from Danville High School in 1965. He resided in the Lightstreet area for many years before moving to his current home in Anthony Township in 2005.
He was employed at the Press Enterprise for many years where he supervised carriers; worked on publishing the Underwater USA and last as manager of radio station WCNR. He and his wife purchased the Jerseytown Tavern in 2001 and operated it until his retirement in 2012.
Jim was an active boy scout and later a boy scout leader, earning both the Eagles Scout and Silver Beaver Awards. He was a long-time member of the Bloomsburg Rotary Club and served the organization as president.
He was a music lover, played the bass and also sang the blues. He loved to hunt and fish and was an avid New York Mets and Williamsport Crosscutters fan.
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents was a son Michael Haas in 1990 and a brother Larry Haas on May 28, 2010.
Surviving is his wife, the former Carol A. Yohey, with whom he observed his 35th wedding anniversary on October 5, 2020; a daughter Annie, wife of Scott McCarty of Millville; grandpups Max and Greta; a brother, Steven W. Haas and a sister Deborah K. Aquino both of Danville.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 2:00 PM in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg. Friends may call from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Interment will follow in Creveling Cemetery, Almedia. A reception will follow.
