Forrest W. “Butch” Shoop, Jr., age 65 of Northumberland passed away on Friday, Feb. 5, 2021 at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.
Born in Bloomsburg on August 20, 1955, he was a son of the late Forrest W., Sr. and Barbara A. (Hendricks) Shoop. He attended Danville High School.
Following school he enlisted in the U. S. Coast Guard and served as a member of the Air Search and Rescue Unit based in Cape Cod, Mass. Following his military service, he spent his career as a truck driver, most recently for J. B. Hunt Transportation Services.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Debra Williams, in 2019 after 24 years of marriage and a step-child, Traci Ernest, in 2004.
Butch enjoyed spending time near water, whether taking trips to Cape Cod and other coastal areas or visiting the Montour Preserve in Washingtonville. Other hobbies through the years included model trains, college and professional football (Penn State and Saints) and science fiction shows and movies, he was an original “Trekkie”.
Surviving are two children: Nancy Shoop and Frank Shoop, three grandchildren: step-children Todd Williams and Chet Ernest; two brothers: Gary A. Shoop and his wife Yvette of St. Mary’s, Georgia and Jack L. Shoop and his wife Maria of Danville.
