Wilma A. (Morsse) Whapham

Wilma Alice (Morsse) Whapham, age 90 of First Street, Danville died peacefully in her sleep at her home on Thursday, December 7, 2023.

She was born on October 31, 1933 in Boston, Massachusetts where she lived until she met her beloved future husband Joe at a USO dance. They married after a brief courtship. After the wedding, they moved to his hometown of Danville and he quickly learned you can take the girl out of Boston, but you will never take Boston out of the girl.

In Danville they raised three children, and provided their grandchildren with a lifetime of memories and love. They held and loved their great-grandchildren with great pride. They were married for 62 years before Joe’s death in 2015.

Wilma was employed as a nurse at Geisinger Medical Center for 30 years before she retired. Incapable of sitting still and a caretaker to the core, she continued working in private duty nursing well into her 80’s. She was well loved by all of her patients.

Wilma was an active member of the Post 40, American Legion Auxiliary, the VFW and the shuffleboard club for many decades. She attended Amazing Grace Community Church in Northumberland. Wilma enjoyed camping, puzzles, her cats, visits to her sister in Boston and Yahtzee with her sister-in-law, Pat.

She is survived by her son Joseph (Rick) Whapham and his wife Sharon, of Pocono Lake; two daughters, Deborah Whapham of Danville and Diane, wife of Bruce Hertzog of Coal Township; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She will be remembered by all who loved her as a spitfire with a wicked German temper, and the most stubborn and impatient person who ever lived, but most of all she will be remembered and cherished for her fierce love and selfless devotion to her family.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service at Amazing Grace Community Church, 138 Leed Street, Northumberland, with her pastor, Darren Hunt officiating, on Friday, December 15, 2023 at 1:30 p. m. Visitation will be from 1 – 1:30 p. m. Interment will follow in Elan Memorial Park at Lime Ridge.

Memorial donations in her name may be sent to Amazing Grace Community Church for a full building elevator, 138 Leed Street, Northumberland, Pa 17857 with “Elevator Fund” in the memo or text AGCC to 570-526-2422, memo Elevator fund.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Roat-Kriner Funeral Home, 1133 Bloom Road, Danville.
