William S. Woznek, Ed.D.

William S. Woznek, Ed.D., age 94, Hill Road, Bloomsburg, died at 2:42 a. m. Sunday, October 30, 2016 at the Lehigh Valley Hospital at Hazleton, where he was a patient for ten days. He was in failing health since March, 2016.

Born in Jamesville, N.Y. on August 9, 1922, he was a son of the late Steve and Mary (Herscha) Woznek. 

Dr. Woznek was a 1940 graduate of Fayetteville High School, Fayetteville, N.Y. and also a graduate of Syracuse University.

 He was a teacher and administrator in public and private schools in the suburban Syracuse area and also taught at Syracuse University before moving to Bloomsburg in January 1970. He was on the faculty of Bloomsburg University from 1970 until he retired in May, 1986. At Bloomsburg University he taught future elementary teachers how to teach.

Dr. Woznek attended St. Columba Catholic Church, Bloomsburg.

He was a disabled veteran of World War II, serving as a pilot with the 375th Troop Carrier Group in the South Pacific, logging 119 combat missions in seven campaigns. He was a Captain if the US Army Air Corps and received the Distinguished Flying Cross, three air medals and the World War II Victory medal.

Dr. Woznek was a member of a number of educational, military and aviation organizations, including Quiet Birdmen; Order of Daedalians; Ft. McClure post 804, VFW; Military Officers Association of America; Bloomsburg Elks Lodge 436; and the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Peter Woznek, Fayetteville, N.Y.

Surviving are his wife, the former Margaret "Peg" Honors, with whom he observed their 70th wedding anniversary on November 29, 2015; a daughter, Judith, wife of Philip Iannaccone, Evanston, Ill.; three grandsons; and four great-grandchildren. He was the last of his immediate family.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with Monsignor Robert E. Lawrence officiating.  Military honors will be provided by the combined  VFW Honor Guard. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Viewing Thursday from 10-11 a. m.
