William Lee "Bill" Heidger

William Lee “Bill” Heidger, age 73, formerly of Catawissa, passed away at 9:35 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, 2020, at The Gardens at Millville where he had resided for two years.

Born in Bloomsburg on July 5, 1947, he was the youngest son of the late Raymond J. and Pearl (Bucher) Heidger. He was a lifelong resident of the Bloomsburg-Catawissa area and a 1965 graduate of Bloomsburg High School.

Following high school Bill enlisted in the U. S. Navy and served his country during the Vietnam War era, following in the footsteps of his father who served with the U. S. Army during World War II.

Bill was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church, Bloomsburg. He also belonged to Bloomsburg Elks Lodge 436, the Catawissa American Legion Post 541 and the Catawissa Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8306.

A Rebel Without A Cause fan, Bill could often be seen riding his Harley around town, stopping to meet friends at the American Legion. As his idol James Dean said, “If a man can bridge a gap between life and death, if he can live on after he’s dead, then maybe he was a great man.” Bill lived each day to the fullest, never worrying about what tomorrow would bring. He inspired his family to do the same and it is in their hearts and memories that he will live on long after his passing.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, the former Barbara M Chesnick, on June 30, 2015.

He is survived by his sister Beverly, wife of Ted Laubach, Bloomsburg, his brother, Dr. Robert Heidger, and his wife Terri, Sarasota, Fla. and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank all the staff at The Gardens At Millville and Commonwealth Hospice of Berwick for their compassion, friendship and skilled assistance in making Bill’s final days comfortable and peaceful.

In keeping with Bill’s request, there will be no services or viewing. Interment will be made in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy.

Friends may remember Bill with a donation to the Animal Resource Center, P. O. Box 439, Bloomsburg, PA 17815.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg.
