William D. Eisenberg

William  D.  Eisenberg, age 88, 5380 Old Berwick Road, Bloomsburg, died at 8:15 p. m. Saturday, September 22, 2018 at the Berwick Retirement Village II where he was a patient.

Born in Philadelphia on May 24, 1930, he was the only child of the late Harry O. and Elizabeth (Bente) Eisenberg. He lived in the Bloomsburg area since 1961.

He was a 1948 graduate of Bangor (PA) High School; received his B. A. degree from the University of Delaware and his M. A. degree from Lehigh University.

Mr. Eisenberg was employed as an Associate Professor of English at Bloomsburg University from 1961 to 1999 when he retired.

A member of the former Mifflinville Lions Club, he joined the Berwick club when the Mifflinville group disbanded. He was a member of the Columbia Montour Torch Club for a number of years and was a former vice-president of the club. He also belonged to the Penn Writers Group. He served as moderator of the "Other World Cafe", an online chat group.

His hobby was writing poetry and he published a booklet of poetry, "Song For America". He also wrote two books dealing with leader dogs: "He Leadeth Me - The Leader Dog Story"  and "Leading the Way - The Story of Leader Dogs For The Blind"

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Bonnie L. Michaels,  on August 28, 2006.

Surviving are two sons: Andrew C. Eisenberg, Montgomery, Ala. and Anthony C. Eisenberg, who resided with him,.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2 p. m. in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge, with Elder Kenneth Fatula of the Berwick Church of Christ officiating. Friends may call on Wednesday from 6-8 p. m. at the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg.

The family will provide flowers. Memorial contributions may be sent to Leader Dogs For The Blind, 1039 S. Rochester Rd., Rochester Hills, MI 48307.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 30, 2018, at  12 noon in the Berwick Church of Christ, 126 Stone Church Rd., Berwick, PA 19603.
