Viola M. Shoemaker DeWald

Viola M. Shoemaker DeWald, age 91, of Danville, passed  away on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2019 and now is at peace with her Lord and Savior.

Born on Dec. 24, 1927 in Rush Township, she was a daughter of the late William H. (Sr.) and Rebecca (Persing) Hinkle. She attended and graduated from the one-room school, East River School in Rush Township.

She was a member of the Pine Street Lutheran Church, Danville, where she served as a volunteer in many church activities, assisting with the Jubilee Kitchen and various bazaars. She was a member of the Women of ELCA.

Viola was an excellent cook and baker. Family and friends looked forward to her trays of Christmas cookies and famous coconut cake. She enjoyed spending time with her family and relatives and helping by lending  a hand wherever she was needed. She will be sadly missed by all.

Viola is survived by three daughters: Connie, wife of Ned Andes; Rose, wife of Robert Ernest; Mary, wife of Brad Freeze, all of Danville; two sons: Paul T. Shoemaker, Jr., Winfield and Frank Shoemaker, and his  wife Barb, Danville; four grandchildren: Jennifer, wife of Gary Brent, Danville; Grier Boedker, and his wife Ami, Bloomsburg; Nick Shoemaker, and his wife Katie, Selinsgrove; Nina Shoemaker, Danville; three great-grandchildren: Zachary Brent and Ashley Brent, Danville; Ethan Boedker, Bloomsburg; numerous step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren, and nephews and nieces. Also surviving is a brother, Ralph Hinkle, and his wife Audress, Riverside; a sister-in-law and close friend, Irene Hinkle, Danville; and a daughter- in- law Robin Shoemaker Barnett, Tennessee.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul T. Shoemaker, Sr.; two sons: Dale Shoemaker and David "Mike" Shoemaker; a sister, Sarah Bickhart and brothers: Robert, Charles Howard and William Hinkle.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing. Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Danville.

Contributions may be sent in Viola's memory to the Pine Street Lutheran Church, 407 Pine Street, Danville, Pa 17821.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Roat-Kriner Funeral Home, 1133 Bloom Road, Danville.
