Stephen Guttman

Stephen Guttman, age 95, of 45 Dietterick Hill Road, Bloomsburg, died at 3:41 p. m. Wednesday, August 22, 2018, at Sunset Ridge Healthcare & Rehabilitation in Scott Township while under the loving care of Geisinger Hospice.

Born in Hungary on November 27, 1922, he was the son of the late Stephan and Anna (Lencz) Guttman. He came to the United States in 1929 and moved to the Bloomsburg area in 1974.

Stephen was a self employed carpenter and developer, developing Summer Hill Estates, locally  and also having built homes in Bucks County.

He was a member of the carpenters union in Conshohocken.

Stephen enjoyed hunting and visiting flea markets. His hobby was collecting antique tools and selling them. He loved music, especially polka and blue grass, visiting Knoebel’s Amusement Park and going to Lake Jean on Red Rock Mountain.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Bertha M. Hart, on July 11, 2018 and also by two brothers: Michael Guttman and Joseph Guttman.

Stephen is survived by a son, Carl L. Guttman, and his wife Barbara, Graham, N.C.;  five daughters: Sharon A. Guttman, Mebane, N.C.; Peggy A., wife of David Bennett, Ft. Mill, S.C..; Melinda, wife of Craig Hallowell, Bloomsburg; Joanne, wife of Jay Knecht, Mifflinville, Diana Hartman, Berwick; six grandchildren: Dawn, Adam, Laura, Craig, Jr., Matthew and Sarah; two great-grandchildren: Lucy and Levi;  a sister, Lena, wife of Arthur Chewning, Mocanaqua; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Sunset Ridge Healthcare for their kindness and care given to their father.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg.
