Stephen J. Balschi, Jr., age 88, of Hookies Grove Road, Northumberland, passed away on Tuesday April 29, 2025 at the Emmanuel Center for Nursing in Danville, after a long period of declining health.

Born in Catawissa on May 13, 1936, he was a son of the late Stephen J. and Frances M. (Abraczinskas) Balschi. He resided in Point Township since 1986 and had previously resided in southern California for almost 30 years.

Steve was a 1954 graduate of Danville High School and also graduated from the Los Angeles Trade Technical College. He was employed as a Job Foreman for the Sprinkler Fitters Local Union 709.

He had many pets including racoons and always had a penchant for fast machines including Harley Davidsons, a 1969 Oldsmobile, 442, W 30, and a customized Zodiac boat.

He attended the Trinity United Methodist Church in Northumberland.

Steve served with the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1957.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 44 in Northumberland and VFW Post 6691 in Selinsgrove.

Steve also belonged to Voiture Local 13,  40 & 8 in Milton, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 171 in Milton, Danville Elks Lodge 754, Sunbury Social Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles in Aerie 1208 in Milton, Point Township Sportsman Association, Liberty Township Fire Company of Mooresburg, Tuckahoe Volunteer Fire Company in Northumberland. He also served as a fire policeman with the Point Township Fire Company. He also belonged to the Sprinkler Fitters Union Local 709 in Whittier, California and was an advanced scuba diver in Los Angeles.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three wives: Pamela K. (Powers), Vivian M. (Robertson), and Joann M. (Kocher) on January 17, 2021.; and a brother, Alvin J. Balschi, of Catawissa.

Surviving is his son, Stephen J. Balschi, III, and his wife Michele, of Cartersville, Georgia; three grandchildren, Dustin J. Balschi, Kristin Nicole, wife of Matthew Howell, and Daniel Balschi, and his wife Becky, all of Ackworth, Georgia; sister, Arlene Luke, of Denver, Colorado; several great-grandchildren; and three nephews and two nieces. His many friends included neighbors, Mary Beth and Scott Neuhard, Bob Hand, and Mike.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday May 14, 2025 at 11 a.m. in the Roat-Kriner Funeral Home, 1133 Bloom Rd., Danville, with Pastor Mary K. Forshey, of Trinity United Methodist Church, Northumberland, officiating. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Danville, with military honors by the U.S. Air Force and American Legion Post 40 of Danville.
