Born on April 22, 1933, in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, Law graduated from Bloomsburg High School with the Class of 1951 and went on to graduate from the United States Naval Academy in 1956. He accepted a commission in the Air Force and married Jean (Mears) Groner in 1957.
After their wedding, Jean and Law began a life together that took them through New York, New Jersey, Alaska, California, Idaho, Texas, Pennsylvania, and Maryland.
Law joined the Air National Guard as a reservist in 1963 while working first with Mears Oil Accessories and later with IBM. In 1976, he returned to full-time active duty as commander of the 111th Civil Engineering Flight in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania.
He retired as a colonel in 1989 after serving with the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense, where he worked on construction budgets and legislative issues for the Department of Defense. He later retired from civil service in April 1993.
Law and Jean returned home to Bloomsburg, where they enjoyed restoring Jean’s historic family home. Law was an active member of the community and participated in numerous organizations, including the Bloomsburg Public Library board, where he served as a director; the Columbia County Historical and Genealogical Society; and Bloomsburg Class of 1951 luncheons.
He was also a member of the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, the Elks, Frosty Valley Country Club, the Masons, and the American Legion.
One of Law’s favorite fall traditions was attending United States Naval Academy football games in Annapolis, where local members of the Class of 1956 gathered for fellowship and football.
Law also enjoyed golfing, evening car rides, entertaining, and socializing. He loved people and cherished time spent in good company.
Law is survived by three children: Kim of Falls Church, Virginia; Law II of Bloomsburg; and Shawn of Pennsylvania; and one grandchild, Katie of Bloomsburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hannah Law and Stephen Sheldon Groner; wife, Jean Mears Groner, on December 27, 2022; and sisters Barbara Ann Groner (Lee) Gaustad and Joan Groner (Bob) Moore and nieces and nephews.
