Sandra Joy (Pursel) Grasley, age 89, of Old Berwick Road (Espy), died peacefully on Sunday, August 17, 2025 at Emmanuel Center for Nursing, Danville, under the care of Commonwealth Hospice and the staff at Emmanuel. Sandra was a resident of Emmanuel since March 2025, having previously resided at Bonham Nursing Center since October 2021.
Born in Bloomsburg on December 18, 1935, Sandra was the daughter of the late LeRoy H. and Irene K. (Shaffer) Pursel. She graduated from Scott Township High School (Espy) in 1953. On July 21, 1956, she married the love of her life, Leland “Mouse” Grasley and enjoyed just short of 65 years of marriage. He passed on June 4, 2021.
Sandra found employment as a secretary at Bloomsburg Mills upon graduation from high school and remained there in the job she loved for 50 years. She was a lifetime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Espy, where she served for many years as a Sunday School teacher and coordinator of the annual Christmas pageant. She was involved in her children’s activities as a troop leader for both Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts. Years past, on any sunny day during the Summer you could find Sandra sunbathing in her backyard. She took pride in her many flower gardens which she tended with much love and care, providing floral arrangements to her Church on Sunday mornings. Sandra was skilled with a paintbrush and produced beautiful ceramic pieces. Those who were fortunate to be gifted her creations know the treasure they hold.
In addition to her parents and husband, Sandra was preceded in death by her brother, Robert L. Pusel, and a sister, Rose Linda (Pursel) Bogart.
She is survived by her two children: Steven Grasley (and wife Ruth Ann), Shippensburg and Crystal (Grasley) Andrezze, of Espy; five grandchildren: Amanda (Andrezze) Smith, Jessica (Andrezze) Angove, Jessica (Igneri) Brindle, Kerysa (Grasley) Harbaugh, and Steven Grasley, Jr.; seven great-grandchildren: Reese, Madison, Kinsleigh, Leo, Maverick, Kolt, and Max; and a sister, Mollie Pursel and brother-in-law, Walter Bogart, Jr., both of Espy.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday August 21, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in the Dean W. Kriner Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with her pastor, the Rev. Gordon E. Smith, officiating. Interment will follow in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. The family will greet friends from 1-2 p.m.
The family will provide flowers.
Sandra’s family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers who provided care to her while she remained at home, along with the staff at both Bonham and Emmanuel Nursing Centers.
Friends may remember Sandra with a contribution to a charity of their choice.
