Sally Jane (Brooking) DeFrain

Sally Jane (Brooking) DeFrain, age 81, of Mountain Pink Road, Bloomsburg died early Saturday, January 13, 2024, at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville where she had been a patient.

Born in Bloomsburg on October 7, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Paul H. and Lillie S. (Tressler) Brooking. She attended Bloomsburg High School and was a resident of Main Township since 1966.

Sally was employed by the Bloomsburg School District for 37 years as a cook, retiring in 2009.

She enjoyed cooking and crafting, but received her greatest pleasure from the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Sam P. Brooking on September 9, 1985 and a sister, Rose N. Brooking on October 16, 2012.

Sally is survived by her husband, Ralph W. DeFrain, Jr, with whom she celebrated their 63^rd wedding anniversary on October 15, 2023; a daughter, Lillie Jane, wife of Steven Auten, Bloomsburg; a son, Ralph P. DeFrain and his wife Beth, of Bloomsburg; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hester Edwards and Mary M. Bellum, both of Bloomsburg and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg, with the Rev. Gordon E. Smith, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church, Espy, officiating. Interment will follow in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. Friends may call on Thursday from 10-11 a. m.
