Ross Helwig, age 93, of English Hill Road, Bloomsburg died Tuesday afternoon, January 5, 2021, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where he had been a patient.

Born in Ringtown on May 2, 1927, he was a son of the late Edward Wallace and Florence Ava (Fuhrman) Helwig. He resided in Mount Pleasant Township since 1951. He was a 1945 graduate of the former Locust Township High School.

Ross was a lifelong farmer and also was employed by the former Emenee Shirt Factory in Catawissa for 32 years and last at Kawneer Corp for nine and a half years, retiring in 1993.

He was a member of the Canby Lutheran Church. He enjoyed bird watching and hunting.  A member of the International Harvester Collectors Club, Chapter 17, he also was a member of the Foot Log Rod & Gun Club in Poe Valley.

Ross served his country with honor as a member of the U. S. Navy during World War II serving for two years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Judith Patricia Fatzinger and a brother Jerold Helwig.

Ross is survived by his wife, the former Betty J. Perry, with whom he would have observed their 72nd wedding anniversary on January 29, 2021; three daughters: Dianne Helwig, Nazareth, Janice Stutz, Bloomsburg, Cynthia Fletcher, St. Petersburg, Fla.; a son, Michael Helwig and his wife Judy, Bloomsburg; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was the last of his immediate family.

Private services will be held in the Canby Lutheran Church, Millertown Road, Bloomsburg with his pastor, Rev. Stanley Bower, officiating. Interment in the Canby Cemetery with military honors by the combined VFW and American Legion Honor Guard.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg.
