Rose Marie Kranig

Rose Marie (Vagnoni) Kranig, age 91, of 737 Fort McClure Blvd., Bloomsburg, passed  away peacefully at her home on Friday evening, November 8, 2019, after an illness.

Born on Dec. 31, 1927 in Hazleton, she was a daughter of the late Caesar and Adalgisa (Roncase) Vagnoni. She was a lifelong resident of the Bloomsburg area and a 1946 graduate of the  former  Beaver Main High School.  After her mother's passing, when she was 16, she cared for her father and brothers.

Rose Marie was an active member of St. Columba Catholic Church. She served on the Bloomsburg School Board for 17 years, where she was an advocate for advanced academics and the protection of students.

She married the love of her life, Carl O. Kranig, in September, 1965 and he preceded her in death on January 12, 1996. They raised their children in a loving home and took every opportunity possible for them to experience new cultures while traveling the world. She loved to cook and share the recipes of her Italian heritage; passing along the traditions to her daughter gave her great joy. Traveling to Italy and visiting family was one of her favorite pastimes.

In 2001, her daughter Ruth opened Rose Marie's Restaurant in Bloomsburg and lovingly named it after her mother. Rose Marie quickly became the face of the Italian restaurant and loved greeting guests, guiding them on what to order, and sharing stories of her travels. Her stories  were legendary. Friends and family relished in her excitement when she shared the adventures of her life. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.

She was the loving mother of her daughter , Ruth C. Kranig and her husband Patrick Burnside, with whom she last resided and a son Carl W. Kranig, II, of Pequea, Lancaster County; proud aunt of John Vagnoni, and his wife Rachel of Collegeville and great aunt of Rachel, Simone and Dante.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11 a. m. in St. Columba Catholic Church, 342 Iron St., Bloomsburg, by her priest, Monsignor Robert E. Lawrence. Interment will follow in New Rosemont Cemetery.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 6-8 p. m. at the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg. A Christian Wake service will be held at 7:45 p. m.

Guestbook

Dear Carl and Ruthie (as you mom always called you),
So many memories but the most significant was our time on the school board together. We almost always saw eye to eye supporting each other in our decisions. We also had some great trips together - San Francisco, the navy base in Newport, Virginia to name a few. Your mom gave back a lot to the community and will be remembered fondly by many.
Regards,
Linda B. Bailey

Dear Ruth and Patrick,

We were so sorry to hear the sad news of Rose Maries passing and our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

We bought our property in Bloomsburg in 2006 and although I still lived and worked in New Jersey, I would return each Friday evening and stop at Rose Maries for dinner. It wasnt long before Rose Marie and I struck up a casual friendship and every Friday as I entered, she would give me a wry smile and say, Heres trouble! We would often sit at the bar and chat for a while about all the happenings in Bloomsburg, todays youth, politics and of course Italy. We know how thrilled she was with her last trip to Italy and her encounter with The Holy Father.

One day in the future, in the life-hereafter, I am sure I will walk down a small alley and spot a little Italian restaurant. Mike, (Tank), will be preparing food in the kitchen, Bill will be serving drinks at the bar and I will see that familiar smile and hear; Well look whos here! Trouble has finally made it!

Till we meet again, God bless you and keep you Rose Marie.
