Roland E. "Sonny" Johns

Roland E. “Sonny” Johns, age 85, of 4276 Old Berwick Road, Bloomsburg, died Friday afternoon, January 7, 2021, at the Geisinger-Bloomsburg Hospital.

Born in Berwick on March 20, 1936, he was a son of the late Clarence A. and Lorena M. (Girton) Johns He resided in the Bloomsburg area for much of his lifetime.
Sonny was last employed by South Centre Township and previously by Columbia County at the Court House in Bloomsburg. Earlier in his life he was employed at the former S & B Foundry in Bloomsburg.
He served his country honorably as a member of the U. S. Army from January 1956 to January of 1959, attaining the rank SP 4.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Barbara J. Keller, on July 29, 2019; a son Roger Johns and a daughter Barbara Hunsinger.
Sonny Is survived by his daughter, Roseshell Harner, who resided with him; four grandchildren: Allen Hunsinger and his wife Brenda, Benton; Sharon Blalock, Berwick; Roland Harner, Mifflinville and Dakota Harner, Bloomsburg; five great-grandchildren and three brothers: Larry Deitterick and his wife Rena, Berwick; Gary Deitterick and his wife Debbie, Berwick; Barry Deitterick, Georgia and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2 p. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with the Rev. Gordon E. Smith, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church, Espy, officiating. Interment will follow in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy, with military honors by the combined VFW and American Legion honor guard. Friends may call from 1-2 p. m.
