Robert W. Luchs, age 83, 425 Center St., Bloomsburg and formerly of 17 W. Anthony Ave., Bloomsburg died early Wednesday morning, July 18, 2012 at his home after having been in failing health since June.

Born in Bloomsburg on August 27, 1928, he was a son of the late Clyde R. and Eliza Mae (Erwin) Luchs.

Bob was a 1947 graduate of Bloomsburg High School and a 1951 graduate of the former Bloomsburg State Teachers College.

He was last employed by Hanover Brands Food, Bloomsburg, retiring about 1979. Earlier he was employed by the former US Radium Corp. at their Almedia plant.

Bob was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church for 71 years. He was a life member of the Bloomsburg Fire Dept., having previously been a member of the former Winona Fire Co., for many years, where he was the captain of the fire police. He also was a life member of the Bloomsburg Fireman’s Relief Assn. and the National Rifle Assn.

He served with the US Army during the Korean War  for two years and was a member of Valley of Bloomsburg Post 273, American Legion.

Bob’s hobbies were making wine, collecting coins and guns, as well as making guns. He especially enjoyed cats. For many years he participated in the local Memorial Day parade dressed  as a Confederate soldier.

He is survived by a brother, James K. Luchs, and his wife Nancy M., Rock Hill, S.C.; two cousins: Barbara L. Toohill, Coalgate, Okla. and Linda Luchs, and her husband Joseph Fisher, Ocean City, M.D. and his care giver, Karen S. Heaps, with whom he resided.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 2 p. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with his pastor, Rev. Gary D. Weaver and Joanne Wallace, chaplain at Life Geisinger in Kulpmont officiating. Interment in Kulp Cemetery, Roaring Creek Township with military honors by the combined VFW group. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1-2 p. m.

The family will provide flowers. Memorials may be sent to PA Pets, 201 E. Fifth St., Bloomsburg or to AGAPE, P. O. Box 424, Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
