Mary Ann Stasik, age 79, of 4 York Rd., Bloomsburg, passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2021 at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Born on October 21, 1941 in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late George T. and Anna (Balberchak) Check. She had been a resident of Bloomsburg since 1972 and previously resided in Wilkes-Barre.

Mary Ann was a 1959 graduate of the James M. Coughlin High School in Wilkes-Barre. She attended Wilkes University and later obtained a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Bloomsburg University.

Before retiring in 2003, she worked as a social worker for Caring Community for Aids in Bloomsburg. During her time as a social worker, she facilitated Vietnamese resettlements and was also an ESL teacher for migrant farm-hands. Mary was the Blood Services Coordinator and HIV instructor for the Bloomsburg Chapter of the Red Cross.

She was a board member of The Gatehouse, Business Professional Women, Mental Health Association and Family Counseling.

Mary Ann was a devout member of St. Columba Catholic Church in Bloomsburg. She helped with funeral luncheons at the church and organized the St. Columba group that served Saturday lunch at Wesley United Methodist Church. Mary Ann enjoyed organizing the Parish Picnic with her husband, Bill. She was also a member of the St. Columba Junior and Senior Catholic Daughters. Most of all, she loved singing in the St. Columba Choir.

She was actively involved in Winterfest and was involved in the Girl Scouts. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, with whom she went on numerous cruises and visited 40 states. She also enjoyed spending time at the beach in Ocean City, MD.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by two sisters: Tallie Arnold and Bernice Struzynski and one brother, George J. Check.

Mary Ann is survived by her loving husband, William S. Stasik, with whom she would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on August 31, 2021; a daughter, Melissa Ickes, and her husband Charles, of AZ; five nieces: Pamela Arnold, of IA, Kimberly Arnold, of NY, Maria Moore, and her husband Harry, of NJ, Keri Lowell, and her husband Jeff, of NJ, and Jennifer Kanupka, and her husband George, of PA; five nephews: Christopher Arnold, of NY, Matthew Arnold, of NC, William Furner, and his wife Mayala, of NJ, Joseph Furner, and his wife Patty, of NJ, and Jeffrey Wood, of CA; a sister-in-law, Anne Wood, and her husband Donald, of PA; two brothers-in-law: Christopher Arnold, and his wife Mary Ann, of SC and Sam Furner, of NJ; and ten grand nieces and nephews: Margaret, Joseph, Kevin, Christopher, Faith, Makayla, Joshua, Patrick, Britney and Amber. She was the last of her immediate family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 20 in St. Columba Catholic Church, 342 Iron Street, Bloomsburg, concelebrated by Father Richard J. Mowery and Father Patrick Devine. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 19 from 6-8 p.m. in the Dean W. Kriner Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg. Interment will be held in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Dallas, at a later date.
