Born on April 16, 1934 in Mount Pleasant Township, she was a daughter of the late Delbert L. and Mary R. (Pugh) Gordner. She attended the Millertown School before graduating from Bloomsburg High School in 1952.
Mary Ann was employed as a secretary for the former Clair C. Hock, Inc. and also for the Columbia Montour Home Health Services. She volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, which was very near and dear to her heart.

Earlier she was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church when it was located in Lightstreet. She served as president of the WELCA, the Dorcas Class and served as a Sunday school teacher.
Mary Ann was very active in the Hemlock 4-H Club as a youth and later went on to teach sewing for over 20 years to the members of the Lightstreet 4-H Club. She also served as president and secretary of the Lightstreet Garden Club.
She never met a stranger and will always be remembered for her dedication to her Lord, her zest for life and her caring and compassionate ways.
Mary Ann was united in marriage with Roy M. Shaffer on April 18, 1953 and they shared 57 years before his death on December 21, 2010.
Surviving are a son Jon B. Shaffer and his husband Ron Punneo, Houston, Texas; a daughter Jewel A., wife of Tom E. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg, PA.
My sympathy goes to the family for the loss of Mary Ann. I got to know her in Christian Women's Club when she helped with the various luncheons and hostessed prayer coffees. A special hostess and person, she left a fine legacy.

My condolences in the loss of your Mother/Grandmother. She was a wonderful person who I got to know by going to St. John Lutheran Church. She used to pick me up on her way to church sometimes also, cause I live in Millville. She was a lovely person and always spoke well of her family. She will be missed.
