Mary Ann (Gordner) Shaffer, age 84, of W. Fifth Street, Bloomsburg and formerly of Mount Pleasant Township died at 8:38 p. m. Saturday, July 7, 2018 at the Emmanuel Center For Nursing, Danville, where she was a patient since June 11, 2018.

Born on April 16, 1934 in Mount Pleasant Township, she was a daughter of the late Delbert L. and Mary R. (Pugh) Gordner. She attended the Millertown School before graduating from Bloomsburg High School in 1952.

Mary Ann was employed as a secretary for the former Clair C. Hock, Inc. and also for the Columbia Montour Home Health Services. She volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, which was very near and dear to her heart.

She was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church, Unityville. Many know this church as Gordner's Church, which was founded by her ancestors. Earlier she was a member of  St. Luke Lutheran Church when it was located in Lightstreet. She served as president of the WELCA, the Dorcas Class and served as a Sunday school teacher.

Mary Ann was very active in the Hemlock 4-H Club as a youth and later went on to teach sewing for over 20 years to the members of the Lightstreet 4-H Club. She also served as president  and secretary of the Lightstreet Garden Club.

She never met a stranger and will always be remembered for her dedication to her Lord, her zest for life and her caring and compassionate ways.

Mary Ann was united in marriage with Roy M. Shaffer on April 18, 1953 and they shared 57 years before his death on December 21, 2010.

Surviving are a son Jon B. Shaffer  and his husband Ron Punneo, Houston, Texas; a daughter Jewel A., wife of Tom E. Flick, Ellicott City, Md.; a granddaughter, Rachel; two grandsons, Zachary and Joshua Flick; two brothers: John "Doc" Gordner, Bloomsburg and Dan Gordner, Westfield, Mass; two sisters in law: Mabel (Shaffer) Kabbash, Poughkeepsie, N.Y. and Nancy (Shaffer) Golder, Perry, Ga.; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and dear friends.

Mary Ann's wish was to be buried with her beloved Roy in the Millville Cemetery. A private burial service for both will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2018, followed by a public memorial service at 11:00 a. m. in St. John Lutheran Church, 68 Gordner's Church Road, Unityville, with her pastor Rev. Ronald G. Montgomery officiating and the Rev. Dr. Joel L. Zeiders, pastor of St. Matthew Lutheran Church assisting.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg, PA.
