Mary A. (Hutch) Rothermel

Mary A. (Hutch) Rothermel, age 96, of Rushtown Road, Danville died peacefully on Sunday, January 28, 2024, at the Milton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Milton where she resided since March, 2023.

Born in Pittsburgh on October 16, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Wasyl and Anna (Chomick) Hutch. She was a graduate of Langley High School, Class of 1945, in Pittsburgh.

Mary owned Rothermel’s Twin Kiss in Riverside for 20 years and also assisted at the family business, Rothermel’s Meats in Rush Township.

She was a member of Grove Presbyterian Church in Danville.

Mary organized and served as the first president of the Geisinger Women’s Auxiliary. She loved hosting parties and laughing with friends.

Mary served proudly served with the U. S. Marine Corps attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant during her three year enlistment. She was a soloist for the singing sergeants. She also served as a model for Marine Corps recruiting posters. In 2018 she served as Grand Marshall of the Lewisburg Veteran’s Day Parade.

In addition to her parents, she weas preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.

Mary is survived by her husband Gene Rothermel, who she met while serving in the Marine Corps and together they observed 71 years of marriage on August 2, 2023. He is currently also a guest at Milton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Also surviving are two sons, Robert E. Rothermel, D. O. and his wife Susan of York, Wellington “Skip” Rothermel and his wife Dorothy of Rush Township; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and a sister, Kay Kurtz of Kansas.

A Celebration of Life gathering will take place on Saturday, February 3, 2024 from 1-4 p. m. at the Rothermel Family homestead, 999 Rushtown Road, Danville.

In lieu of flowers friends are requested to send cards to her husband which the family will take to him.  Cards should be sent to Gene Rothermel, 999 Rushtown Road, Danville, PA 17821.
