Mary Ann Horn

Mary Ann Horn, 58, formerly of Knights Drive, Sherwood Village, Bloomsburg,PA  peacefully passed away on  Wednesday Feb  7,  2024 at her father's home in Gadsden, AL.  

She was born Sept.11, 1965 to William A. and Gayla Jean (Craft) Horn in Uniontown, PA.. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and active in their youth group when she was growing up.  She attended Scott Elementary School and she and her little girl friends enjoyed Brownies at the Espy Fire Hall.

Mary Ann was a 1983 graduate of Central Columbia High School and a 1987 graduate of Penn State University with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. She continued her post graduate experience with a Masters of Science and PhD in Applied Mathematics degrees from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville  and postdoctoral studies at The University of Minnesota.


 For many years she worked as an Assistant  Professor of Mathematics at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn.  Later in her career she served as a Program Director at the National Science Foundation in Arlington, VA .  It was a job she loved. She most recently was on leave from her position as a Professor of Applied Mathematics where she had served as the departmental chair at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She was a prolific researcher in her field. Because of her work as a mathematician she traveled often and made many friends all over the world. She was active in many national and international math and science associations.

She had returned to her home in Arlington where she was residing until her recent illness. Mary Ann was married to the love of her life Subarao Chitturi in 2007 and also acquired her lovely step-daughter Aria.

Mary Ann learned to fly and in the 80's her Uncle Kevin helped build a 2 seater experimental RV aircraft for her.  She loved animals and always shared her life with one or two of her favorite cats.

Mary Ann is survived by her mother, Gayla Jean Horn of Bloomsburg, her father, William A, Horn and step-mother Linda Godsey, Gadsden, AL, her step-daughter Aria Chitturi-Sharp, Boston, MA., her step-sister, Carla Manchee, of Columbia, SC, and her step-brothers Michael and Christopher who reside in Alabama.

A Celebration of Life will be held June 29, 2024 at 11:00AM in the conference room at The Bloomsburg Airport. Friends are invited to join with them.
