Mabel E. (Harris) Horner, age 95, formerly of Aspen Court Berwick, died Sunday, February 18, 2024, at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital in Plains Township, Luzerne County where she was a patient.
Born in Wilkes Barre on January 26, 1929, she was a daughter of the late William and Margaret (Williams) Harris.. She resided in Berwick since 1998 and previously lived at Town Hill for 36 years, Mabel was a graduate of Berwick High School, Class of 1946 and a 1951 graduate of the former Bloomsburg State Teachers College.
She taught school at Roaring Spring for six years and later did substitute teaching.
She was a member of the Bower Memorial United Methodist Church in Berwick and had previously been a member of the Town Hill United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack L. Horner, Sr., on May 25, 1985 and by a son, Richard Allen Horner on December 20, 1968. Mabel is survived by a son, Jack L. Horner, Jr. of Uniontown; four foster children: Tami, wife of Robert Avery of Town Hill, Michaeline Jones of Hazleton, Michelle Dennis of Paxinos, Michael Weaver of Nescopeck and a niece Georgia Steckly of Danville.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner,. Inc., Funeral Home, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg with Cathy Cope, Pastoral Lead at Bower Memorial United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be made in Scott Cemetery at Waterton, Huntington Township, Luzerne County.
