Leonard A. Winski, age 80, Haven Lane, Millville, peacefully passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2009, at the Millville Health Care Center. He leaves behind family and friends who loved him and were blessed to have shared his life.

Born on May 3, 1929 in Nanticoke, he was a son of the late Andrew and Antoinette (Kavetski) Winski. He was a graduate of Nanticoke High School and Wilkes College, Wilkes-Barre. He graduated from Hahneman Medical School, Philadelphia in 1957. Dr. Winski and his growing family moved to Millville where he became a "Country Doc". as he liked to refer to himself. By the time he retired from his family practice in 1986, he had cared for multiple generations of local families.

A veteran of the US Army, Dr. Winski served in Italy during World War II and was later stationed in San Francisco, where he had the opportunity to begin the early stages of what turned out to be a long and rewarding medical career.

Generous with his time, Dr. Winski was a faithful member of his church, St. Columba Catholic Church, Bloomsburg and numerous medical associations. He was a former member and past president of the Bloomsburg Rotary Club, the Columbia County United Way and Big Brothers & Big Sisters.

After retirement he thoroughly enjoyed starting a local Apple computer users group. His other passions included woodworking, photography, watching any golf tournament featuring Tiger Woods and traveling to visit his children and grandchildren.

Dr. Winski leaves behind his wife, the former Louise Novak, with whom he celebrated his 57th wedding anniversary on October 27, 2008; and five children: David Winski, and his wife Laurel, Lubec, Maine; Christine, wife of Dennis Laska, Greenfield, Ind.; Karen, wife of Robert VanDine, Millville; Sharon, and her husband John, Milford; and Annette, wife of Steven Spahr, Camp Hill. Additionally , Dr. Winski took great pride in his 11 grandchildren : Dominic and Gabriel Winski; Alexis and Andrew Laska; Adam and Zachary VanDine; Lindsey and Caitlin Anderson; and Ellery, Aaron and Riley Spahr; and great-grandson, Cole VanDine. He is also survived by a sister, Joanne, wife of Joseph Ackourey, Basking Ridge, N.J.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11 a. m. in St. Columba Catholic Church, 342 Iron St., Bloomsburg. Celebrandt will be his pastor, Rev. Patrick A. Devine. Interment will be private in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy. There will be no viewing.
