Kay L. (Kear) Walker Higgins

Kay L. (Kear) Walker Higgins, 85, of Shamokin and formerly Danville, passed away peacefully into our Lords loving arms on Sunday, October 23, 2022, at The Manor at Penn Village in Selinsgrove.

Born on April 5, 1937 in Bloomsburg, she was the daughter of the late Bernard C. Kear and Gladys T. (Ande) Kear Seitz Hartman. Kay resided in Shamokin for 45 years.

Kay grew up in Catasauqua and Mt. Joy. A 1955 graduate of Danville High School, she was the lead majorette in the band and twirled fire during half time at the football games. 

Her first job was at The Danville News, followed by Merck Cherokee FCU. She was employed at TRW and later after moving to Shamokin opened her own business called "Grammy's Place"! Kay was a professional seamstress/clothes designer and also rented tuxedos at her store.

Kay was a Phillies fan, she enjoyed making homemade crafts helping others and was always happy to be with family and friends. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas and Ronald Kear.


She is survived by the love of her life, her husband, William “Bill” Higgins; three daughters: Donna Kay, wife of Stanford Shultz, of Florida, Doris Higgins, of Newtown Square, and Sandy, wife of Kerwin Bauer, of Sunbury; her seven precious grandchildren: Jessica, wife of Greg Herring, Kyle Stine, and his wife Marissa, Kaitlyn Smith, Brenna Smith, Emma Smith, Jon Bauer and Gavin Bauer; two sweet great-granddaughters, Piper Stine and Ayla Herring; and a brother, Michael Ande Kear Sr.,of Baltimore, MD.

Funeral services will be held on Friday October 28, 2022 at 11 a.m. in the Roat-Kriner Funeral Home, 1133 Bloom Rd., Danville, with Rev. Joseph R. Howard, officiating. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Shamokin.
