June Laster

June (Meeker) Laster, age 97, of 330 West Third St., Bloomsburg, died at 1 a. m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2019 at the Geisinger-Bloomsburg Hospital where she was admitted Tuesday.

Born on May 4, 1922 in Jamison City, she was a daughter of the late John and Nellie (Hirleman) Meeker. Much of her early life was spent in Bloomsburg where she was a 1940 gradute of Bloomsburg High School. In later years she resided in Pittsburgh, Washington, D.C., Fishingcreek Township and last in  Bloomsburg.

June was employed as a secretary at the former Hutchison Insurance Agency in Bloomsburg,   Westinghouse, Corp., Pittsburgh and also at the Pentagon in Washington. D.C. In later years she was employed in sewing factories in Benton and Millville.

In her early years she was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, Bloomsburg. An active volunteer she delivered meals on wheels, assisted at blood mobiles and the PA Pets. She enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Steelers on television along with all other sports. She was an avid reader and enjoyed working crossword puzzles. She was one of a family of 11 children and she especially enjoyed being part of such a large family watching her many nephews and nieces grow up.

She was preceded in death by twin children, Bradley Laster in 1965 and Barbara Raymond in 2001; and also by six brothers and three sisters.

June is survived by a son, Dr. Kevin Laster, and his wife Nicolette S. of Pittsburgh; a grandson, Brian Raymond of Houtzdale; a sister, Nathel Hickey of Bloomsburg; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2019, at 1 p. m. in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy, with her pastor, Rev. Mark F. Reisinger officiating.
