It is with great sadness that the family of Joseph Vincent Gidaro, 98, from 219 Hillside Avenue Elysburg, PA, announce his passing at 4:52am on Wednesday August 2, 2023. Joseph passed peacefully in his home surrounded by his family

Joseph was born on April 14, 1925, to Charles and Margaret Gidaro in Kulpmont.

On July 19, 1947, Joseph married the love of his life, Catherine J. Dobeck, with whom he enjoyed 72 years of marriage before she passed away in 2019. He was the devoted husband of Catherine and loving father of Sherry Carmel. One of the kindest souls on this planet, Joseph was a gentle, giving man who worked tirelessly to ensure that his family had everything they needed. He faced every challenge in life with admirable strength and courage. He was a man of strong faith, and he taught us the importance of family and hard work.

Joseph worked for many years as a rail setting foreman for the Consolidated Rail Corporation, better known as Conrail. He retired after 40 years of service. After his retirement, he enjoyed his summers working for Knoebel’s Grove in Elysburg until he was 91 years old.

Joseph is survived by his only daughter Sherry Carmel and her husband Bruce, of Bloomsburg; his three grandchildren: Lori and her husband Joseph G. Shiskowski, Shavertown; Joseph J. Kelley, and his wife Jamie, Palmetto, Fla.; and Sara Carmel, Delray Beach, Fla.; seven great-grandchildren: Olivia Moore, Joseph B. Shiskowski, Rebecca Estus, Reagan Kelley, Elizabeth Kelley, Noah Spaeth, and Isabella Laracuente-Carmel; and three Great-great-granddaughters: Tempest, Mara, and Elliana. 

 He was preceded in death by his wife Catherine, great-grandson Nicholas T. Moore and his two siblings Charles and Genevieve.

Arrangements were entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg.
