Jordan A. Newman, age 96, of 524 Katy’s Church Road, Muncy, died at 9 p. m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2020, at Vintage Knolls Senior Living in Danville where he resided for the past year.

Born in Belmar, New Jersey on May 6, 1923, he was a son of the late Earl and Gertrude (Crook) Newman. He was a graduate of Manasquan (N.J.) High School. He resided in Madison Township, Columbia County since 1979.

Jordan was employed by the Jersey Central Power & Light Co. as a lineman.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Belmar, New Jersey.

Jordan served on the Madison Township planning board for many years. He was honored as  PEER of the year at Vintage Knolls.

He served his country honorably with the U. S. Army as a paratrooper during World War II and participated in the Battle of the Bulge.  He received the Purple Heart, the American Theater ribbon, the European-African-Middle East ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal. He was the last surviving member of his unit.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, the former Dorothy M. Nutt, on April 1, 2016; a granddaughter, Kendra King, a grandson Alan Newman and a brother, Donald Newman.

Surviving are two daughters: Norah, wife of John Ranck, Danville and Jerilynn Newman, Hayward, Calif.; by two sons: Barry Newman, Texas and Scott Newman and his wife Chris, Bloomsburg; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a brother, Harry Newman, and his wife Helen, Whiting, New Jersey.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020 at 11 a. m. in the Springer Chapel of the First Baptist Church, 12 Brookside Drive, Danville, with Rev. Dawes J. Dunham and Rev. Dr. Harry Wonderland officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in White Hall Cemetery, Madison Township. Military honors will be provided by the honor guard of American Legion Post 40, Danville at the Church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Roat-Kriner Funeral Home, 113 Bloom Road, Danville.
