John P. Shively

John P. Shively, age 78, of Bloomsburg, passed away with his family by his side at the Bloomsburg Care & Rehabilitation Center on Thursday, June 10, 2021.

Born on September 30, 1942 in Clearfield, he was a son of the late Lester and Amy Pearl (Mitchell) Shively. He was a 1960 graduate of Clearfield High School. Following high school, he served as a proud member of the U. S. Navy onboard the USS Claude Jones alongside his brothers Bob and Tom.

John grew up in Clearfield and resided there until he moved to Bloomsburg in 1983 for his job as a Regional Manager for DC Guelich Explosives.

He was an active member of the Wesley United Methodist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir. John also was a member of American Legion Post 273 and the Bloomsburg Elks Lodge 436. He is a former member and past-president of the Bloomsburg Rotary Club.

John was a very charitable man who enjoyed participating in multiple mission trips and cutting the grass for the Scott Little League for many years. He loved spending time with family and friends and attending church functions. In his younger years he enjoyed running, boating and hunting.

A lifelong Penn State football fan, he could often be found enjoying a cheeseburger on Friday nights at the Wagon Shed, Sunday lunch at Perkins or a cold beer with friends at the Legion or the Elks.  John  especially enjoyed meeting his friends each morning both at the McDonalds Coffee Club or the YMCA.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings: Max Shively, Robert Shively and Mary Jo Beyers.

John is survived by his large loving family, including four children: Laura N., wife of Glen Benes, Northampton; John C. Shively, and his wife Keri, Kate wife of Alex Billmeyer, and Craig Shively, all of Bloomsburg;  seven grandchildren: Christopher and Zachary Kostantewicz, Mackenna Shively, Maddie and Aiden Snyder and Libby and Anna Grace Shively; a great-grandson, Layne Cleary; four siblings: Sue, wife of David Lloyd, Tempe, Ariz., Thomas Shively, Punxsutawney,  Clara, wife of Thomas Veres, Tylertown, Toby Shively and his wife Mary, Eufaula, Ala. and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg on Monday, June 14, 2021 from 5-7 p. m. Military honors by the combined American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars will be performed at 5 p. m. and a brief service will be at 7 p. m. with  Todd Davis officiating. Interment on Tuesday in Crown Crest Memorial Park, Clearfield.
