John A. Pinto, Sr., age 83, of 2558 Old Berwick Rd., Bloomsburg (Espy) passed away at 9:18 p.m. on October 1, 2019 at his home.
Born in Philadelphia on September 24, 1936, he was a son of the late Manuel and Elizabeth (Hibberd) Pinto.
John worked for Tastykake Baking Co., Philadelphia, for 20 years. He moved to Bloomsburg in 1973 and opened JP’s Cold Cuts, in Espy, which he operated until 2018. He also worked for the Strick Corp., Washingtonville, for several years.
John was an avid fisherman and enjoyed collecting cars, especially Cadillacs. He was the PA Keystone Champion Archer in 1969.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Joseph in 1981 and a grandson, John A. Pinto in 2016.
Surviving is his wife of 50 years, the former Caroll J. Moneyhan, whom he married on November 16, 1968; five children: Deborah A Pinto, wife of Daniel Spatolla, Williamsport, Patricia A. Patete, Philadelphia, John A. Pinto, Jr., and his wife Judith, Lafayette Hill, Sandra K., wife of Donald King, Scottsdale, AZ, and Linda J. Countryman, Gilbert, AZ; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers: James Pinto, and his wife Rosalie, Bensalem, and Thomas Pinto, and his wife Adele, Fishtown; and his adopted son, Chris Ehmer, and his companion Annemarie Carl, Bloomsburg.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 12, 2019 in St. John Lutheran Church, 2575 Old Berwick Rd., Bloomsburg (Espy), with the pastor Rev. Gordon E. Smith, officiating. Interment will follow in New Rosemont Cemetery.
In remembrance of John, memorials may be sent to St. John Lutheran Church, 2575 Old Berwick Rd. Bloomsburg, PA 17815.
Arrangements have been entrusted into the care of the Dean W. Kriner Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg.
