John F. Butasek

John F. Butasek, age 83, of 912 Market Street, Bloomsburg, died at 2:57 p. m. Wednesday, March 13, 2019 in the emergency room of the Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital.

Born on Feb. 20, 1936 in Ashley, he was a son of the late  John and Mary (Stanek)  Butasek. He was a 1954 graduate of Hanover Township High School and also graduated from the Rockland State Hospital School of Nursing, Rockland, N.Y. He resided in Bloomsburg for 10 years and previously lived at Stillwater for 30 years.

John was a Registered Nurse and was last employed for 8 years in the emergency room  of the Berwick Hospital Center, retiring in 2003. Prior to that he was employed in the emergency room of the Bloomsburg Hospital for 20 years.

His hobbies were growing Bonsai trees and making fly’s for fly fishing. He loved fly fishing and horticulture.  He served with the U.S. Navy Reserves.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sara Mellen and two sisters: Irene Muroski and Eleanor Butasek.

Surviving are his wife, the former Shaila Ann “Shay” Rosenfeld, with whom he celebrated his 39th wedding anniversary on October 11, 2018; 6 children: Janine, wife of Eric Wendling, Tamaqua; Julie Brooks, Pittenween, Scotland; Jon Brooks, M.D. and his wife Katharine, Columbus, Ohio; Scott Brooks, and his wife Margaret, Sag Harbor, New York; Susan Brooks, wife of Brian McGuire, Bala Cynwyd; Robin Brooks, wife of John Riggleman, Topshan, Me.; ten grandchildren: Jocelen Ruth, Ben Riggleman, Natalie Brooks, Tom Brooks, Henry Brooks, Jack Brooks, Joshua Brooks, Joey Brooks, Sophie Hogg, Sam McGuire; and a brother, Joseph Butasek, D. D.S., Alexandria, Va.

A private gathering will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing.

Memorial contributions in John’s memory may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 1948 E. Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg.
