Loved God, family, and community
Johanna Eckrote, 93, of Rock Glen, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Friday, June 20, 2025.
Born on March 21, 1932, in Fern Glen, Johanna was the daughter of Joseph and Mary Slovik. A woman of deep faith, she was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Church in Nuremberg and Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Weston.
After many years of working in the local sewing factory, Johanna was then employed at the Sanitas Wall Covering Co., in Humboldt Industrial Park. Upon retirement, Johanna found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. For more than 30 years, she maintained the Veteran’s Memorial site in Rock Glen. She was an excellent cook, an enthusiastic hunter, and a devoted sports fan. Whether she was cheering for the New York Mets, rooting for Penn State football, or following her grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s interests, she did so with enthusiasm, a laugh, and sometimes a loud whistle.
She is survived by her children, Gloria Davis and her husband, Dan, Zion Grove; and Dennis Eckrote and his wife Kathy, Drums; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Weston, on Friday, June 27, 2025 at 10:00am. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Johanna's memory to the Sacred Heart Cemetery Fund, PO Box 919, Conyngham, PA 18219, or a charity close to your heart.
