Jeanne Hinkel Ditzler

Jeanne Hinkel Ditzler, age 82, of Danville, beloved mother, wife, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister and aunt passed away on Wednesday, November 4, 2020.

Born in New York City on March 13, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Charles Luther and Ethel (Van Cuffin) Hinkel. She graduated from Danville High School in 1955, pursued Theatre Arts at Pennsylvania State University in 1955-57, and in 1975 earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Bloomsburg State College.

Jeanne worked as an early intervention teacher in Mount Dora, Florida, a Danville Head Start Teacher, a tap dance instructor at Studio Brick and a childcare provider in her Danville home. Jeanne loved young children and related to them with great ease, nurturing their self-confidence and imagination.

In 1958 she married Ensign William Perry Moore, Jr. Together, they traveled to California, Greece, Italy, Florida, Saudi Arabia, and Nigeria, where they raised two children before William passed in 1977. Jeanne found love again in Walter John “Jack” Ditzler, Jr., her seventh grade sweetheart, when they reunited at their 25 year Danville High School reunion, and later married in 1981. Jeanne and John were health and fitness enthusiasts, and were often referred to as the “walkers” due to their daily walks as a couple throughout Danville’s neighborhoods and inside Geisinger Hospital.

Jeanne enjoyed playing the piano, tap dancing, singing with her beloved sisters, Silver Sneakers classes, scuba diving, “thrifting” and cooking healthful, gourmet food.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband John on July 21, 2020.

Surviving are a son, Scott Moore and his wife Nellie of Danville, a daughter Kelly Moreland of Ithaca, New York; four grandchildren: William P. Moore, III, Joshua Moore, Olivia Moreland and Geneva Moreland; three sisters: Joan Livziey, Williamsport, Phoebe, wife of James Kase, Lewisburg, Nancie, wife of George O. Wagner, Riverside, and a brother Charles L. “Chuck” Hinkel, II, Danville, as well as cherished nieces, nephews and friends.
