Jean C. Kester

Jean C. Kester, age 88, of 345 Iron St., Bloomsburg, was met with open arms by her Lord and Savior when she entered the pearly gates of Heaven on Thursday morning May 18, 2023 at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville with her children by her side.

Born on August 9, 1934 in Grand Island, NE, she was the daughter of the late Theodore H. and Hazel (Shafer) Lent. Jean was a 1953 graduate of E.L. Meyers High School, Wilkes-Barre, and a lifelong resident of the Bloomsburg area.

Earlier in her life she worked in environmental services at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

She was a former member of Shiloh Bible Church, Bloomsburg, and Benton United Methodist Church. She loved the Lord.

Jean enjoyed walking around town and making birthday meals for her family. An avid reader, she enjoyed camping and traveling the countryside on a motorcycle with her husband.

An incredible mother, she was extremely proud of her five children. She had a heart of gold and cherished and nurtured her many friendships. Family time was of utmost importance to her.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Charles B. “Bill” Kester, on November 24, 2005 and by a son, Thomas H. Kester on December 22, 2020.

Surviving are four children: David R. Kester, and his wife Patsy, of Springdale, AK, Dianne J. McCurley, and her fiancé, Charlie E. Brinich, of Millville, Donald C. Kester, of Bloomsburg, and Carol A. Williams, and her husband Bruce, of Danville; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Tiffany Kester.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday May 23, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the Dean W. Kriner Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with Pastor Caleb Fritz, officiating. Interment will follow in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. Viewing will be held Monday night from 6-8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the charity of the donor’s choice.
