Jason B. Vognetz

Jason B. Vognetz, age 96, formerly of Bloom Road, Danville, died at 2:30 a. m. Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at Brookdale Senior Living Center in Scott Township where he resided.

Born in Derry Township, Montour County, on January 12, 1924, he was a son of the late Howard S. and Mary (Steinman) Vognetz. He resided in the Danville area all of his life until moving to Brookdale. He was a 1943 graduate of Danville High School.

Jason was employed by the Kawneer, Corp., Bloomsburg for 25 years, retiring in 1989. Earlier he was employed by Merck & Co., Riverside and at the former Kennedy Van Saun plant in Danville.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Danville, the Danville Moose Club, Danville VFW Post and American Legion Post 40 of Danville. He also belonged to the East Fire Company where he was a former fire chief.

Jason served with the U. S. Navy during World War II with the rank of Seaman First Class aboard the USS Ticonderoga in the Mariana Islands and the Marshall Islands. He received the World War II Victory medal, the Asiatic/Pacific medal and the American Theater medal. On June 16, 2017 he was honored by the Columbia County Quilts of Valor group and presented with a quilt.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Helen M. Matthews, on July 31, 2014; a son, Jason B. "Jay" Vognetz, II, in November, 2007 and by four sisters and two brothers.

Jason is survived by two daughters: Mary Ann, wife of Michael “Mick” Billman, Elysburg and Judy Marie, wife of Ronald DeFrain, Bloomsburg; seven grandchildren: Scott Klugh, and his wife Michelle, Kelly, wife  of Brian Fugok, Ronnie DeFrain, Rachel DeFrain, Anne, wife of Scott Fein, Jason “Jay” Vognetz, and his wife Megan, Meghan, wife of Curtis Yeager; seven great-grandchildren: Andrew, Arden, Erin, Ella, Ava, Sienna and Damien. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family with military honors by the American Legion Post 40 Honor Guard. Interment will be made in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Roat-Kriner Funeral Home, 1133 Bloom Road, Danville.
