Janette (Brouse) Gebhart

Janette (Brouse) Gebhart, age 90, of Lone Hickory Lane, Danville (Rush Township).

Hebrews 9:27 says “As it is appointed unto men once to die and after this the judgment….” I kept my appointment, I couldn’t be late, nor could I postpone it, so on Sunday, December 17, 2023 at 10:45 a. m., God said life for me on earth was over.

I was born on October 16, 1933 at my parent’s home, 37 Wheatley Avenue, in Northumberland, the seventh child of Cyrus Leonard and Emma Carrie (Walker) Brouse. I attended Spruce Hollow school for eight years and graduated from Northumberland High School in 1951.

I married Carl W. Gebhart, Jr. in August, 1952 at the Methodist Church in Winfield. We were married for 65 years until his death in June 2018.

My husband wanted me to be home when he was home, so I was a stay-at-home wife and mother. Our children are Robert George Gebhart and his wife Nancy of Northumberland, LuAnn, wife of Randy Hummer, with whom I last resided, Julie, wife of Chris Watts of Montandon, Esther Ellen and her husband Robert Genheimer of Danville, Seth William Gebhart and his wife Miriam of Hopewell, Virginia. Our sixth child, Emma Catherine, was stillborn on January 1, 1975.

There are 14 grandchildren: Lisa Gebhart, Lori Smith, Meredith Tobin, Alyssa Benjamin, Joel Hummer, Christina Hummer, Avery Watts, Ben Watts, Meghan Watts, Sarah Lyons, Luke Genheimer, Isaac Genheimer, Hannah Emerson, and Brittany Gebhart. There are thirty great-Grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. I am also survived by my sister, Emma Jane Foust, of Selinsgrove and by numerous nieces and nephews.

I was preceded in death by my brothers Harold Brouse, Robert Brouse, C. Wayne Brouse, Clinton Brouse and Ralph Brouse and by two sisters, Mary Wadeck and Nancy Witmer; and one great-grandchild.

I attended the Snydertown Christian Fellowship.

There is only one other thing that I want you to know about me. It is about the most important choice I ever made in my life. I came to realize that I was a sinner and accepted God’s Son Jesus as my Saviour. Jesus went to the cross to pay for my sin and is now in heaven with the Father. I have joined Him around the throne of God and am looking forward to the marriage supper of the Lamb. This is not something that I have earned at all, it is a free gift, based on the finished work of Christ on the cross. Will you be there?

In Revelation 3:20, Jesus says “Behold, I stand at the door (of your heart) and knock. If anyone opens the door, I will come in and will fellowship with him, and he with me.” He won’t force his way nor open the door, because the only door knob is on your side. You must open it! You can read in Revelation 20:15 the terrible fate for eternity of those without Jesus.
