James (Jim) L. Miles, Sr., of Bloomsburg, passed away peacefully in his sleep the morning of July 29, 2025.

Born on November 28, 1938, in Kingston, he was the son of the late John and Elizabeth (Swainbank) Miles. Jim was a graduate of Myers High School in Wilkes-Barre. Upon graduating, he proudly served his country for 20 years as a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force. Jim retired at the young age of 38 and began a second career as a lieutenant for the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections.

Jim lived an adventurous life and was an avid outdoorsman. He was especially fond of being in the woods or on a lake. In his younger years he got his pilot license and liked taking his family on trips. He continued his love of travel and enjoyed many trips with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He and his wife were avid dancers and always drew a crowd at social functions. When his grandchildren were babies, you would often find him holding them on his shoulder swaying back and forth to music. He always said he was teaching them rhythm. Jim was an extremely loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His grandchildren were the apples of his eye. He will be greatly missed.

Surviving is his beloved wife, Joyce Craig Miles, with whom he celebrated 66 years of marriage. He is also survived by two children: Joyce Campenni and husband Sam, of Bloomsburg, and James Miles, Jr., and his wife Christine, of Hollidaysburg. Jim has four grandchildren: Christina Sarge, Samantha Campenni-Hunt, Amanda Beard, and Tyler Miles. He was also blessed to have six great-grandchildren: Skylar, William, Parker, Charlotte, Sloane, and Blaire. Jim was the oldest of eight children. Surviving siblings are William, Mary, and Janelle. Deceased siblings are Thomas, Beverly, John, and Robert. He has many nieces and nephews as well.

At Jim’s request, there will be no funeral services.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Dean W. Kriner Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg.
