James R. Burrows, age 73, of Old Berwick Road, Bloomsburg (Espy) died unexpectedly at his home early Wednesday morning November 17, 2021.
Born in Bloomsburg on December 11, 1947 he was a son of the late Russell C. and Frances E. “Betty” (Hull) Burrows. He was a 1966 graduate of Bloomsburg High School.
Jim was employed as a banker for most of his working life and was an Assistant Vice- President at First Columbia Bank & Trust Co. when he retired in 2008.
A lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church, Bloomsburg, he was active in many areas of the Church, serving as an Elder, Deacon, treasurer and assisting in the Sunday School. He was a member of the Bloomsburg Fair Association and served as treasurer from 2007 to 2014. Jim also was a former board member of the Bloomsburg Town Park Association where he also served as treasurer.
Jim was an active member of the Bloomsburg Rotary Club for many years, holding several offices including President. He was the recipient of the Paul Harris Award.
Always active in the community, Jim was a former member of the Kiwanis Club, Jaycees and Lions Club holding various offices in all of the organizations. He also belonged to the former Liberty Fire Co. (now part of the Bloomsburg Fire Department) and the Fireman’s Relief Association.
Jim proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1970. He was stationed in Da Nang, Vietnam from 1969 to 1970. He was a member of Valley of Bloomsburg Post 273, American Legion.
Surviving is his wife, the former Velma Avery, with whom he observed his 45th wedding anniversary on June 19, 2021; a daughter, Jan Louise, wife of Craig Allen Fox, Bloomsburg; a son, Brian James Burrows and his wife Laura of Syracuse, New York; four grandchildren: Cheyenne Fox, Mackenzie Fox, Camryn Fox and Emmett James Burrows; and a brother R. Carl Burrows, Atlanta, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 1:30 p. m. in First Presbyterian Church, 345 Market Street, Bloomsburg, with his former pastor, Rev. Stephen L. Cureton, officiating. Interment with military honors by the combined American Legion and VFW Honor Guard will follow in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy.

Viewing will be from 12 to 1 p. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg.
