Jack Runge, Sr., age 96, of 1122 Numidia Drive, Catawissa (Numidia) died Monday morning at the Grandview Health and Rehabilitation Center in Danville.
Born in Numidia on August 15, 1923, he was a son of the late Carl and Blanche (Sanger) Runge. He was a lifelong resident of Numdia and a graduate of the former Locust Township High School.
Jack was employed by Cabinet Industries, Inc., Danville for over 50 years. He also was employed part-time for several years at Kawneer, Bloomsburg and the former Bloomsburg Mills, Inc.
He was a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Catawissa and his favorite activity was camping with his wife. He served with the U. S. Army during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre of operations. He received the Good Conduct medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Service medal, the American Service medal, and the World War II Victory medal.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife, the former Betty M. Vietz, on March 2, 1994.
Surviving are two sons: Jack Runge, Jr. and his wife Linda K., Bloomsburg and David Runge, Numidia; a granddaughter, Alexa, wife of Walter Leck, of Numidia; two grandsons: David Runge, and his wife Erin of Numidia and Josh Runge, Boston, Mass.; one great-granddaughter, Kylie Leck; and a sister Patricia Welsh, Chester Heights.
Private graveside services will be held in Creveling Cemetery with military honors by the combined veterans group.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg.
