Ida Mae (Cooper) Wynings, age 81, of 233 Fisher Street, Bloomsburg (Rupert) died unexpectedly at her home on Tuesday, January 17, 2023.

Born in Mahanoy City on December 18, 1941, she was a daughter of the late Wilbur G. and Muriel N. (Whittach) Cooper. She resided in Bloomsburg for 55 years. A 1959 graduate of Mahanoy City High School and the Allentown Hospital School of Nursing in 1961, she later earned a BSN from Bloomsburg State College.

Ida Mae was employed by Danville State Hospital for 30 years as a nurse instructor, retiring in 1997.

She was a member of the former Rupert United Methodist Church until it closed and a life member of the Women of the Moose.

Ida Mae played clarinet in the Mahanoy City High School Band and also played in the State Band. While in nursing school she was a star basketball player. She was an avid sports fan, especially of the Philadelphia Phillies and the Penn State football team, where she held season tickets for 55 years. She enjoyed doing puzzles and puzzle books and playing games on her Kindle. She also enjoyed attending her grandsons sporting events.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dale R. Wynings, on September 28, 2013 and two brothers: Roy Cooper and Wilbur Cooper; and by two sisters-in-law: Bette Cooper and Elizabeth “Betty” Cooper.

Surviving is a daughter, Bonnie Ann, wife of Lawrence Gilligan, Charlton, Mass.; two grandsons: Daniel Gilligan, Ardmore and Michael Gilligan, Chicago; a brother, John Mark Cooper, Selinsgrove; two nephews: Shawn Cooper and his wife Tiffany, Schuylkill Haven and Brian Cooper and his wife Nicole, Kutztown; a niece, Jodee Liskiecz, Reading; two step grandchildren: Mallory, wife of Michael Curio and Nathan Wynings of Bloomsburg; four step-great-grandchildren: Izaiah Wynings, Aliyah Curio, Uriah Curio, Oliviah Curio; a great-niece, Laci Cooper and a sister-in-law, Ruth Cooper of Binghamton, New York.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at 11 a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg, with Pastor Kelly Kocher Ross, pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, Espy officiating. Interment will follow in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. Friends may call from 10-11 a. m.
