Harold R. Kashner

Harold R. Kashner, 87, of Dogwood Lane, Bloomsburg died Friday, July 25, 2025 at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Born in Bloomsburg on March 26, 1938, he was a son of the late Harold B. and Helen (Kressler) Kashner. He was a lifelong resident of Bloomsburg and a 1956 graduate of Bloomsburg High School and a 1961 graduate of the former Bloomsburg State Teachers College. He also did graduate work at Penn State University.

Harold taught for one year at Susquehanna High School, Susquehanna and spent the rest of his teaching career as a business education teacher at Danville High School where he taught from 1963 to 1997. He was a year book advisor, class advisor and also an FLBA (Future Business Leaders of America) advisor.

He was a lifelong member of the First English Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, financial secretary treasurer and trustee. He was especially proud of the fact that his grandmother was a charter member of the church.

He began his Masonic life as a member of DeMolay and later joined Washington Lodge 264 F & AM where he remained active his entire life. He was elevated to 33 degree in 2015. He was treasurer of the lodge for many years and also served on the board of directors of the Masonic Learning Center. He also was a member of Caldwell Consistory and was honored with the Masonic Service Award in 2006.

Harold was a longtime member of the board of the Rosemont Cemetery Co. serving as treasurer for many years.

He was a founding member of the Saddle Rock Rod & Gun Club in Sugarloaf Township where he served as treasurer for many years. He was the last of the founding members and his sons and grandsons are now members.

Harold was active with the Boy Scouts of America as a troop leader and Camp LaVigne staff member. He was a member of the Order of the Arrow and also served on the board of Directors of the Council.

He recently became a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.

From the greenhouses at Dillon’s to the classrooms at Danville High School to the offices at Caldwell Consistory and Rosemont Cemetery, Harold gave his all. The way he not only taught people the integrity of honest work, but he did it with compassion and humor. He made friends with any stranger and added his special personality to both family times and social connections.

He was an only child but considered his many cousins as his brothers and sisters. They formed a bond early in life gathering on Sunday afternoon at their grandparents farm. The site of that farm is where his Church, First English Baptist now strands.

Harolds hobbies of hunting and fishing brought him much enjoyment with both his family at Pike County and members of Saddle Rock Hunting Cabin of which he was a member for over 50 years. Friends Dave and Rod were his die hard train enthusiasts and great grandson Remington has his favorite places around the track.

Harold enjoyed playing a serious game of cards. For over 40 years he played once a month with Lynn, Barry and Carl – his retired teacher friends from Danville. More recently he challenged the group at RJ’s on Sunday evenings, bragging or whining as he counted his results on the dining room table when he got home.

Although Harold led a busy life outside the home, he was a devoted husband, Dad, grandpa and now Pop-Pop. He taught us all how to live a good life and we will be ever grateful for his humble but powerful example. Rest in peace dear Harold.

Surviving is his wife the former, Anna L. Lidgard, with whom he celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on April 1, 2025; two sons: Stewart R. Kashner (Merricki) and Harold R. Kashner, Jr. (Mary), all of Bloomsburg; four grandchildren: Jessica L. Kashner (Daniel), Kimber R, Everitt (David), Richard Schaeffer and Jason Schaeffer; three great grandchildren: Remington Gottstein, Josephine Everitt and Daphne Everitt; special nieces and nephews: Sandra Gumpy, Donna Llewellyn, Ruth McHenry and Lloyd Paul, Jr. and most importantly his First English Baptist Church family.

At Harold’s request, there will be no funeral services.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg.
