H. Raymond Chandler, Jr.

H. Raymond Chandler, Jr., age 98, of Kennett Square died on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at the Crosslands Continuing Care Community in Kennett Square.

Born on January 6, 1921 in Germantown, he was a son of the late H.  Raymond and Ruth (Kocher) Chandler. He resided in Greenwich, Conn. Prior to moving to Kennett Square in 2005.

His early life was spent in Bloomsburg where he was a 1939 graduate of Bloomsburg High School and also graduated from the former Bloomsburg State Teachers College.

Ray taught at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and the American University in Istanbul, Turkey. Later he was a consultant for Towers, Perrin and Foster in New York City.

He was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church inn West Chester and formerly a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Greenwich. He also belonged to Washington Lodge 265, F & AM in Bloomsburg.

Ray served with the U. S. Army during World War II, receiving the Asiatic-Pacific Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal. He served from 1942 to 1945.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, the former Anne Louise Shortess, on July 28, 1994 and a sister, Mary Jane (Chandler) Arena.

He is  survived by a sister, Helen Buck, Lewisburg and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2019. At 1 p. m. in New Rosemont Cemetery, Espy, with the Rev. Dr. Elizabeth McCormick, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Bloomsburg officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the combined veterans group.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg.
