Gladys E. (Bowman) Watts, age 91, 3755 First Street, Bloomsburg (Almedia) died at 9:26 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2009 at the Columbia-Montour Hospice At Maria Hall, Danville after a brief illness.
Born on November 28, 1917, she was a daughter of the late Wesley and Alice (Thomas) Bowman. Mrs. Watts grew up in Bloomsburg and was a 1937 graduate of Bloomsburg High School. In 1940 she married Donald Albert Watts of Millville and he preceded her in death on August 12, 1997. He was a high school teacher and administrator and later became the first executive director of the Bloomsburg University Alumni Association.
Mrs. Watts was employed as an administrative assistant in the Anethesia Department of the Hackensack (N.J.) Hospital.
Prior to returning to Bloomsburg in 1975, she lived in Watsontown; Johnstown; Libertyville, Ill and Harrington Park, N.J.
While residing in Libertyville, she was a memeber of the United Methodist Church. Until the onset of her recent illness, Mrs. Watts had been actively involved with a number of social and family groups.
Surviving are two sons; Donald A. Watts, Jr, and his wife Kathy, Oakton, VA; Thomas B. Watts, and his wife Katie, Lexington Park, MD; a foster daughter, Ginny Barton, Berwick; seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and two nieces; Joyce Johnson and Margaret Lemons, both of Orangeville. She was the last of a family of 12 children, having been preceded in death by six brother; Henry, Maxwell, Millard, Harry, Paul and Bruce Bowman and five sisters, Helen Pennington, Elsie Wright, Emilly Bogart, Pauline Bomboy and Violet Bowman.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Dean W Kriner Inc Funeral and Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg with Columibia-Montour Hospice Chaplain, David A. Borton officiating. Interment in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Orangeville. There will be no viewing. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday.
