Gerard J. Dullea, Ph.D., age 75, 1112 Lightstreet Road, Bloomsburg, died  at 10:38   p. m. Sunday, July 29, 2018 at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where he was a patient.

Born in Milton, Mass. on May 24, 1943, he was a son of the late Walter and Edna (Barthel) Dullea. He resided in Bloomsburg for 20 years and previously lived in New Windsor, New York.

Gerard was a graduate of  Archbishop Williams High School, Braintree, Mass; Boston College, Boston, Mass. and Syracuse University, Syracuse, N.Y., where he received his Ph. D. degree.

Early in his life he was a professor of English at the University of Maine, Bangor, Maine. He was  employed as executive director of the United States Chess Federation from 1979 - 1989 and again from 1999-2000, when he moved to Bloomsburg.

Gerard was a former board member of the Chamber of Commerce in Newburgh, New York.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ervene (Gulley)  Dullea, Ph.D.  on July 25,  2008. She was a former chairperson of the English Department at Bloomsburg University. He was also preceded in death by four siblings.

Gerard is survived by a sister, Arlene M. Dullea, Plymouth, Mass., a sister in law, Marilyn, wife of John F. Wagner, Suffern, New York and a number of nieces and nephews.

At Gerard’s request, there will not be any funeral services or viewing.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg.
