Elizabeth I. Longenberger

Elizabeth I. "Betty" Longenberger, age 94, formerly of Espy, died at 3:15 p. m. Thursday, August 3, 2017, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where she was a patient for two days.

Born in Coal Township, Northumberland County on September 21, 1922, she was a daughter

of the late Raymond and Ruth (Leffler) Herb. She was a 1940 graduate of the former Coal

Township High School.  She resided in Danville and Catawissa prior to moving to the Bloomsburg area in 1956.

Betty was employed by the former Bell Telephone Co., in Shamokin for five years in the early 1940's and later by the former Magee Carpet Co., Bloomsburg, as a receptionist, for 40 years, retiring in 1987.

She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Espy, where she served as a greeter;  the Bloomsburg Hospital Auxiliary; the Red Hat Society and the Roaring Creek Valley Grange.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Harold C. Longenberger, on December 15, 1990;  by a brother, Raymond A. Herb, Jr.; and by two sisters: Shirley Shroyer and Margaret Williams.

Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great nephews and a sister-in-law, Carol R. Drumheller, Catawissa.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 18, 2017, at 11 a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg, with her pastor, Caleb J. Fritz, officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Catawissa. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a. m.
