Edward H. Polk, age 97, 119 Pepper Hills Drive, Danville, died early Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at the Bloomsburg Care & Rehabilitation Center where he was a patient.

Born in Greenwood Township on September 14, 1923, he was a son of the late Reamer D. and Viola (Corneilson) Polk.  He resided in Danville since 2001 and previously lived on River Hill Drive, Bloomsburg for 13 years and in Hemlock Township prior to that.

Ed began working at the former Columbia Silk Mill in Bloomsburg at the age of 16 and later worked at the former Magee Carpet Co., for 22 years before retiring. He also was a proud gentleman farmer operating his own farm for 48 years where he raised Hereford cattle and loved all animals, especially horses and his dogs.

He proudly served his country as a member of the U. S. Army during World War II participating in the campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was awarded the EAMET ribbon with five bronze stars, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

Ed will be missed by his caregivers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former May B. Vanderslice, in 2003 and by two brothers: Clayton Polk and Roland Polk.

Ed is survived by a sister, Mary Martz of Berwick and a niece Marqueen Girton of Bloomsburg.

Graveside military services will be performed on Monday at 2 p. m. in Elan Memorial Park, 5595 Old Berwick Road, Bloomsburg, by the combined American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guard.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg.
