E. JoAnn Johnson

E. JoAnn (Karns) Johnson, age 85, of 1146 Ridge Road, Bloomsburg (Lightstreet) died at her home at 11:59 a. m. Saturday, March 9, 2019 after an illness of one year.

Born in Benton Township on December 19, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Clyde and Edith (Force) Karns. She was a 1951 graduate of Benton High School and a 1953 graduate of the former Geisinger Hospital School of Nursing.  She resided in the Lightstreet area for 58 years.

JoAnn was a Registered Nurse at Geisinger Hospital for several years and then worked at the Bloomsburg Hospital for a number of years. She last worked as a Hematology and Oncology nurse at Geisinger Medical Center  from 1983 to 1996 when she retired.

She was a longtime member of the Lightstreet United Methodist  Church. A former 4-H Club leader, she taught knitting. She raised and trained therapy dogs which she took to area nursing homes.

JoAnn was an active volunteer for the former Columbia Montour Homer Health & Hospice and also for the Bloomsburg Fair where she worked in the Red Cross Tent and at the Barton House.

She especially enjoyed family vacations and loved her grandchildren, taking great pride in their accomplishments.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul W. Johnson, on Nov. 13, 2013; by a son, Craig W. Johnson on March 17, 2009 and a brother Kermit W. Karns.

Surviving are three children: Daniel W. Johnson, wife Cathy, Bloomsburg; Patti S., wife of Marvin E. Kline, Bloomsburg; Kevin P. Johnson, wife Irene, Berwick;  six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and four siblings: Sandra Glatfelter, Lancaster; Thomas Karns, wife Cindy, Elizabeth, Colo.; Diane, wife of John Ditty, Bloomsburg;   Richard Karns, wife Linda, Lightstreet; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a. m. in the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with her pastor, Rev. Dr. Jennifer Parks-Snyder officiating. Interment will follow in the Lightstreet "Highland" Cemetery. Viewing Wednesday from 10-11 a. m.

The family will provide flowers. Contributions in her memory may be sent to the Lightstreet United Methodist Church, 1640 Main St., Bloomsburg, PA   17815.
