E. Jean (Evans) Karnes, age 97, formerly of Lightstreet died early Friday morning November 29, 2024 at the Grandview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Danville where she resided since August 2020.
Born in Orangeville on November 10, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Beulah (Force) Evans. She had spent her early life in Orangeville and lived in Lightstreet since 1952.
Jean was employed by the former hotel Magee as a laundry worker from 1973-1999, when she retired. She enjoyed doing word search puzzles and was an excellent baker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, James Joseph Karnes, on February 22, 2003, a son, James David Karnes, on April 15, 2021, and by three brothers, E. Donald Evans, Sr., A. Max Evans, and Ernest A. Evans.
Surviving is a daughter, Gloria J. Dawson, of Berwick, two sons, Richard R. Karnes, of Millville, and Philip M. Karnes, and his partner Brenda, of Lightstreet; a daughter-in-law, Linda Karnes, of Bloomsburg; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one step great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024 at 11 a.m. in the Dean W. Kriner Funeral Home, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with pastor, Rebecca Cuddeback, of Lightstreet United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Lightstreet “Highland” Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 10-11 a.m.
