Dwight A Johnson

Dwight A. Johnson, age 59, of Roslyn Drive, Berwick, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 after a three  year long battle with cancer.

Born in Nanticoke on March 28, 1961, he was a son of the late Arthur B. and Irma (Harrison) Johnson. He spent most of his life in the Shickshinny and Berwick areas. He attended Northwest Area Schools and graduated from West Side Vo-Tech High School.

Dwight was employed for much of his life as an over-the-road truck driver and most recently as a crude oil hauler in North Dakota.

He was a member of the Town Hill United Methodist Church, Shickshinny.

Dwight was also involved with the Huntington Valley Fire Department at Huntington Mills, served as an AYSO soccer coach and referee, Assistant Boy Scout Leader, Emergency Management Agency at the nuclear power plant and as a Deputy Game Commission officer.

He was an excellent carpenter and could build and fix just about anything. He was always willing to help family and friends with their construction projects. He also was an avid hunter.

Dwight loved children and he and his wife provided love and support to many children over the years through foster parenting.

Dwight is survived by the love of his life, the former Melanie K. Cooper, with whom he celebrated 37 years of marriage on October 16, 2019; seven children: Joshua Johnson, and his wife Christine, Bremerton, Wash.; Brandon Johnson, and his companion Christina, Buffalo, N.Y.; Joseph Johnson and his partner Sean, Grover, Colo.; Anthony Johnson, and his companion Nicole, Bloomsburg; Kyle Johnson, Tiffany Johnson, Jazlien Johnson, all at home;  and his grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as “Poppy”: Logan, Gavin, Nolan, Hayden, Logan, McKenzie, Chase, and soon to arrive, Remi.

Dwight’s family was his pride and joy and he will be missed by all who loved him.

Graveside services will be held in July with the exact time and date to be announced at a later time.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Dean W. Kriner, Inc., Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market Street, Bloomsburg.

When we first met you we battled like bulls. It didn't take too long and we became close as brothers. You wher by far the best of us all. I will never forget when he made brownies in his truck and walked the line handing them out to all of us. I only new Dwight Sense 2012 but I feel the loss like I knew him my whole life. I know we all hurt i also know that God gained a Soldier who will never give up. Rest in peace my brother till we meet again.

Lived next to them when we were teens. Went snowmobile riding. Played badminton. Thinking of his family while grieving.
